RICHARD NAM

The Pit is happy to announce The Pit Shop takeover by Los Angeles based ceramicist Richard Nam! The shop takeover includes an installation of Nam’s unique dinosaur pots, hand made ceramic tableware that includes unique mugs and bowls, as well as customized clothing by the artist such as shirts, tote bags, and even pants!  All items are installed and on display in the Pit’s shop! The takeover will take place from August 10- September 14, 2024.

Currently, Richard is a dinosaur enthusiast, who makes prehistoric creatures out of clay.

He re-imagines the fossilized, monstrous prehistoric creatures that used to roam the earth, in the form of planter pots. The ceramic dinosaurs all share basic forms of a vessel that are intended to care for living plants.

Interested in the way dinosaurs are attributed to childhood nostalgia, Richard enjoys reconceptualizing the 'land before time

In this way, the work reimagines the ancient primal creatures during the earth’s younger years, while taking care of the living plant.

Yet whimsical and playful, these sculptures, referred to as "Dino-Pots," carry a message about the fragility of life and powerful forces of nature that have shaped our world.
